INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Rockhurst University’s Sarah Anderson (Lincoln, Neb.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Week. The junior back helped lead the Hawks to a win at No. 17 Washburn and to a tie versus No. 22 Mercyhurst last week.
In Rockhurst’s 2-1 win at Washburn on Aug. 29, Anderson posted the game-winning goal off a corner kick in the 64th minute. Minutes earlier, Anderson assisted on Abby Davidson’s game-tying score.
She helped the Hawks hold visiting Mercyhurst scoreless after an initial goal in the seventh minute on Sept. 2. The two teams finished in a 1-1 tie following two overtime periods.
Anderson has a goal and two assists on the year and has helped limit Rockhurst’s opponents to just four goals this season.
She is the first Rockhurst student-athlete to be named GLVC Women’s Soccer Player of the Week since the Hawks joined the league prior to the 2005 season.
Rockhurst (3-0-1) has outscored its opponents 12-4 through the first four matches of the season. The Hawks will travel to Missouri-St. Louis and Missouri-Rolla this weekend.
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included: Bellarmine’s Stephanie Wilson, Drury’s Melissa Perry, Lewis’ Courtney Kettel, Missouri-Rolla’s Morgan Lockowitz, Missouri-St. Louis’ Amy Fox, Northern Kentucky’s Jayme Light and UIndy’s Ashley Seehase.
