Drury University junior forward Shelby Hatz and University of Wisconsin-Parkside senior defender Emily Konior have been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week in women's soccer, it was announced by the league office Monday.
Konior anchored a defensive unit that yielded just five shots on goal while accounting for 75 percent of the 12th-ranked Rangers offense over the weekend, helping league leader UW-Parkside finish the week undefeated. Against Truman State on Friday, Konior tallied the game-winner in the 81st minute on a penalty kick, giving the hosts the 2-1 win over the regionally-ranked and aggressive Bulldogs, who finished with 12 shots and seven corner kick opportunities. Two days later, the Huntley, Illinois, native had a memorable Senior Day, as the Rangers allowed just four total shots to Quincy, including just one on goal. Offensively, she scored on a free kick from 30 yards out in the 21st minute before tacking on the game-winner in the 74th minute after converting another penalty kick. The senior made the most of her opportunities over the weekend, scoring on all three shots she attempted. Konior leads the team with eight goals on the season and four game-winning goals. This is the second career weekly honor for Konior as her first came on Sept. 22 of this year, just a day before being named the Disney Soccer/NSCAA National Player of the Week.
