INDIANAPOLIS – Quincy University redshirt junior quarterback Nick Lonergan and redshirt freshman linebacker Nate Rueckemann, along with Saint Joseph's College senior linebacker Gary Yeoman, have been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Players of the Week in football, it was announced by the league office Monday.
Lonergan was tabbed GLVC Offensive Player of the Week, Yeoman was picked Defensive Player of the Week, while Rueckemann was named Special Teams Player of the Week.
Lonergan was 25-for-41 for 350 yards and three touchdowns in Quincy's 42-28 win at William Jewell, which was previously unbeaten in GLVC play. The redshirt-quarterback became Quincy's all-time leader in passing touchdowns (38) with his third scoring pass of the game. Last week, Lonergan moved into the top spot on Quincy's all-time passing yardage list and now has 5,498 yards in his career. On Saturday, Lonergan threw all three of his touchdown passes in the second quarter as he helped the Hawks turn a 7-0 deficit into a 28-14 halftime lead. He connected with D.J. Daughtry on a 65-yard touchdown pass that gave the Hawks a 14-7 lead, and then hit Eric Poindexter on an 11-yard touchdown pass on the Hawks' next possession. With under a minute left in the half, Lonergan found Daughtry on a 46-yard touchdown pass that pushed Quincy's lead to two touchdowns. In the fourth quarter, Lonergan was clutch as the Hawks pulled away. He was 7-for-8 for 86 yards in the final 15 minutes with five of his seven completions going for first downs. This is the Jacksonville, Illinois, native's second weekly honor from the conference as he earned his first back on Sept. 8 of this year.
