INDIANAPOLIS – Rockhurst University senior forward Taylor Skala and University of Wisconsin-Parkside sophomore defender Niekie Pellens have been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week in women’s soccer, it was announced by the league office Monday.

Skala collected nine points on four goals and one assist in two wins last week. She scored a pair of goals in Rockhurst’s 3-0 win over Drury on Friday, and then added two goals and an assist in a 5-2 win at Missouri S&T on Sunday. Four of her nine shots on the week were on goal, with all four of those finding the back of the net.  Perhaps what is most impressive is the fact that she played just 128 of the 180 minutes of action all week, with 71 minutes coming against Drury and 57 minutes recorded at S&T.  Skala leads the GLVC in goals (15), points (33) and game-winning goals (7), and recently broke the school records for career goals (47) and career points (105).  The Long Grove, Illinois, native earns her fourth career weekly honor and will conclude her tenure at Rockhurst having garnered a weekly award in each of her four seasons.  She was first recognized as GLVC Player of the Week on Oct. 24, 2011, and then proceeded to win the award on Oct. 1, 2012, before earning GLVC Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 28, 2013.
