Northern Kentucky University’s Julianne Hoekzema (Hamilton, Ohio) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week. Hoekzema, a senior for the Norse, finished second at the Dayton Flyer 5K on September 1.

She helped guide the Norse to a second-place finish in the College Division at the event by posting a time of 18:32. Hoekzema was the top College Division finisher and trailed only Miami University’s Laura Neufarth who completed the race in a time of 18:20.

Northern Kentucky completed the event with a final score of 30. Ohio Wesleyan University finished first in the College Division with a total score of 25.

Hoekzema is a two-time All-GLVC performer and will return to action on September 8 as the Norse host the Queen City Invitational in West Chester, Ohio.

Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Bellarmine’s Jamie Rife and Southern Indiana’s Mary Ballinger.
