INDIANAPOLIS – University of Indianapolis kicker senior Scott Miller, McKendree University sophomore lineman Lucky Baar, and Truman State University senior running back Garrett White have been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Players of the Week in football, it was announced by the league office Monday.
White was tabbed GLVC Offensive Player of the Week, Baar was picked Defensive Player of the Week, while Miller was named Special Teams Player of the Week.
White set a new GLVC single-game rushing record with 229 yards on 22 carries and scored four times in the Bulldogs’ 52-7 victory over Southwest Baptist on Saturday. The new record broke William Jewell College’s Thomas Cook’s mark of 225 yards, which was set against Saint Joseph’s College on Oct. 20, 2012. White had 69 yards on Truman’s opening possession and scored on a receiving touchdown to put the Bulldogs up 14-0 at the end of the first quarter. He would score with 39 seconds left in the half from five yards out to make it 24-0, and then ripped off touchdown runs of 47 and 64 yards in the third quarter to extend Truman’s lead to 38-0. He did not come back into the game following the 64-yard run with 3:02 left in the third quarter. The 229 yards put him exactly at 1,000 for his career, becoming the first Bulldog to hit that milestone since 2003. It was also the first time since 2003 that Truman had a running back go over 200 yards rushing in a game and the 229 was the 16th best single-game performance by a Bulldog back. This is the second weekly honor for the Liberty, Missouri, native as he was honored nearly one year ago on Nov. 4, 2013.
