INDIANAPOLIS – The Great Lakes Valley Conference has named Rockhurst sophomore outside hitter Morgan Rietzke and Missouri S&T junior libero Jackie Pyles as its Baden Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively; it was announced by the league office Monday.
Both Rietzke and Pyles each earn their first career honor.
Pyles helped lead Missouri S&T to a 3-0 week and led a defense that held opponents to .157 hitting percentage. The Miners defense as a whole averaged 19.57 digs/set and Pyles had over a quarter of those digs. In the win at Drury she had 17 of her 23 digs in the final three sets and also had three kills and two blocks switching to an outside hitter over the final two sets. On Saturday she had a match high 20 digs in the come from behind win at Wisconsin-Parkside recording all 20 of them in the first four sets and seven in the fourth set alone. In the upset win at Lewis on Sunday she had a match-high 26 digs with 15 of those coming in the first two sets. She helped hold the Flyers attack to a .161 hitting percentage which was below their season attack percentage of .250 and also 12.7 kills/set which was also below their season average of 14.16 kills/set. Pyles ended the week with 69 digs, 14 assists, three kills, and two blocks. The White Lake, Mich., native is averaging 4.46 digs per set, and leads Missouri S&T with 18 service aces.
