INDIANAPOLIS – Bellarmine University senior midfielder Dan Schiavi and University of Missouri-St. Louis senior defender Tony Auck have been named the final Great Lakes Valley Conference Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for the 2014 men's soccer season, it was announced by the league office Monday.

Down 3-0 in the second half to Southern Indiana and with Bellarmine's season hanging in the balance on Wednesday, Schiavi led an inspired comeback bid by the Knights, scoring the team's second goal and assisting on the game-tying goal as BU pulled out a 3-3 deadlock with the Screaming Eagles at Strassweg Field.  Behind Schiavi's heroics, Bellarmine was able to clinch the eighth and final spot in the GLVC Tournament, barely edging UW-Parkside with the stalemate. With less than 15 minutes left in BU's season and in Schiavi's career, the Knights faced a steep 3-1 hole before the two-time All-Midwest Region selection cut the deficit in half in the 76th minute with his eighth goal of the season. Roughly two-and-a-half minutes later, Schiavi's playmaking ability led to the tying goal, as he notched his sixth assist of the season on a score by Callum Southern in the 78th minute. The Knights rode Schiavi's performance to a draw with USI and to a matchup with No. 6 Quincy in the GLVC Tournament.  The Bourne, England, native earns his first career weekly award and is the first BU offensive player to be honored since Bradley Barraclough was named GLVC Player of the Week on Oct. 25.  The last Bellarmine player to be recognized with a weekly award was GLVC Defensive Player of the Week Blake Hunter on Oct. 7, 2013.
