INDIANAPOLIS – Lewis University sophomore Bryan Wiener and Truman State University senior Abby Hempen have been named the PNC Great Lakes Valley Conference Athletes of the Week in the sports of men’s and women’s swimming and diving, it was announced by the league office on Monday.

Competing in the Flyers’ 139-66 home win over Valparaiso Friday, Wiener broke a pool record by two seconds in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 48.55 seconds, good enough for an NCAA B Cut.  He also set the 50 Freestyle school record on Saturday in a tri-meet against Truman State and Lake Forest, touching the wall in an NCAA B Cut of 20.61.  Wiener did not lose a single event he entered on Saturday, having also garnered a pool record in the 400 Freestyle Relay – a race in which he earned a split time of 45.6.  A native of Mundelein, Illinois, Wiener grabs his first-ever weekly award while becoming the first Flyer recognized by the league since Aidan Brennan on Jan. 15, 2014.
