Northern Kentucky University’s Jayme Light (Cincinnati, Ohio) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Week. The senior forward posted two goals last week, helping the 16th-ranked Norse to a pair of GLVC victories.
In NKU’s 3-0 win over visiting Lewis on Friday, Light took six shots, including three shots on goal, and converted the second goal of the match. The insurance score pushed the Norse lead to 2-0 in the 27th minute of play. Light was assisted on the goal on a lead pass from Katie Guinn.
The Norse returned on Sunday to post a 3-2 win over UW-Parkside. With the match knotted 2-2, Kara Costello was taken down inside the 18-yard box in the 84th minute forcing a penalty kick. Light converted the attempt to give NKU the decision.
Light has five goals and one assist to lead the Norse in goals and points (11) on the young season. She has two game-winning goals through the first five matches of the year.
NKU (5-0-0, 2-0-0) will host Ashland on Friday before returning to GLVC play against visiting Bellarmine on Sunday.
