INDIANAPOLIS – William Jewell College freshman João Pedro Granato and junior Ida Nyman have been named the PNC Great Lakes Valley Conference Athletes of the Week in the sports of men’s and women’s swimming and diving, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday.

Granato won three individual freestyle events (200, 400, 800) against Lindenwood and Missouri-St. Louis this past Saturday. His 800 Free time of 8:19.90 shattered his lifetime best by 7.3 seconds and broke his own pool record by that same amount. His 200 Free time of 1:55.82 was recorded less than 10 minutes after his 800 event. He won the 400 with a time of 4:02.87. In addition, he also spilt :53.33 on Jewell’s 400 Free Relay unit that was second to Lindenwood.
This is Granato’s first career weekly award and it’s the first for a Jewell swimmer since Matthew Luton was recognized on Nov. 26, 2013.
