INDIANAPOLIS – University of Southern Indiana senior guard Gavin Schumann has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week for men’s basketball, it was announced by the league office Monday.
Schumann scored a total of 50 points in leading USI to a pair of victories, averaging 25.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists on the week. He also shot 60.7 percent from the field (17-28) and 83.3 percent from the line (15-18).
In the 91-86 overtime thriller against Shorter on Thursday, Schumann had 17 points on 6-of-14 shooting (.429) and grabbed seven rebounds in helping the Eagles in a come-from-behind victory. He followed with his career-best and game-high 33 points on 11-of-14 shooting (.786) in Saturday’s 85-74 win over Kentucky State. He is first GLVC standout to eclipse the 30-point mark in a game this year.
This is the Cincinnati, Ohio, native’s first career weekly selection and it is the first for a Screaming Eagles since Aaron Nelson was honored on Dec. 9, 2013.
