INDIANAPOLIS – University of Southern Indiana senior center/forward Anna Hackert has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday.
In the Screaming Eagles two Midwest Region wins last week, Hackert registered back-to-back double-doubles against Kentucky Wesleyan and Ashland, averaging 14.5 points and 13.0 rebounds per game. She began the week with 10 points and 10 boards in USI’s 72-58 win over the Panthers on Tuesday, Nov. 18. Four days later, she shot 9-forr-18 from the field for a game-high 19 points, grabbed a season-best 16 rebounds, and snatched a steal in the Screaming Eagles eight-point (72-64) victory against Ashland.
For the week, she converted 14-for-27 (51.9 percent) from the field, corralled 26 rebounds, collected two assists, and one block at the post position.
On the year, the Evansville, Ind., native leads USI with 14.3 points and 13.3 rebounds per contest. On Tuesday, she entered the top-five all-time at USI in career rebounding and surpassed the 700-career rebound mark (703) in USI’s win over Ashland on Saturday. Hackert also is just one-point shy of entering the top-10 all-time at USI in scoring.
The honor is Hackert’s fourth of her career as she also won the award on Jan. 7, 2013, Jan. 21, 2013, and Jan. 7, 2014.
