INDIANAPOLIS – University of Indianapolis senior forward Joe Lawson has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week for men’s basketball, it was announced by the league office Monday.

Lawson led the Greyhounds to a pair of in-region home wins last week in the UIndy Thanksgiving Classic, averaging 25.0 points and 8.0 rebounds along the way.

In the Hounds’ 73-51 victory against Tiffin on Friday, the Indianapolis native recorded his third double-double of the season with an impressive 28-point, 10-rebound performance.  Lawson scored 20 points in the first half alone, helping stake UIndy to a 13-point lead at the break.  All told, he did his damage on 9-for-16 (.563) shooting from the floor and 10-for-13 (.769) shooting at the line.  He also chipped in two steals and a block to help limit the Dragons to just 51 points, matching the season low for a UIndy opponent.

He then notched his league-leading fifth 20-point game less than 20 hours later, amassing 22 points and six boards in the 95-76 victory over Central State.  He sank 11 of 21 (.524) shot attempts while adding a steal.

Lawson averages 21.5 points and 8.7 rebounds per game this season, good for third and fourth, respectively, among GLVC standouts.

This is Lawson’s second career weekly selection as his first came the last time a Greyhound earned a weekly honor on Feb. 3, 2014.
