Northern Kentucky University’s Liz Holmes (Cincinnati, Ohio) is the Baden/Great Lakes Valley Conference Volleyball Player of the Week. The senior middle hitter guided the Norse to a 4-1 record last week including a 3-1 win over No. 7 Hillsdale on Friday.
On the week, Holmes averaged 4.4 kills, 2.4 digs and a hitting percentage of .544 to help NKU improve to 12-2 on the year and to 1-0 in the GLVC. She also contributed eight service aces, 13 blocks and three assists.
In NKU’s 3-0 win over Lincoln Memorial on Tuesday, Holmes finished with 13 kills and a .579 hitting percentage.
She followed that performance with a 19-kill effort in NKU’s upset of seventh-ranked Hillsdale at the Ashland Invitational. Holmes had a .667 hitting percentage in the win and a game-tying kill late in the fourth set to help the Norse advance to a 37-35 decision in the deciding game.
She tallied 16 kills and 12 digs in NKU’s loss to 13th-ranked Grand Valley State in Friday’s nightcap before returning on Saturday to average 4.33 kills in straight-set wins over conference-foe Kentucky Wesleyan and Wheeling Jesuit. She added seven service aces and 16 digs in the two wins while hitting at a .595 clip.
Holmes was named to the Ashland Invitational All-Tournament Team for her efforts and averaged 4.36 kills at the event.
No. 24 Northern Kentucky (12-2, 1-0) will next host Bellarmine and UW-Parkside in GLVC divisional contests.
