INDIANAPOLIS – Bellarmine University senior forward Jake Thelen has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week in men’s basketball, it was announced by the league office Monday.

After a 13-day hiatus from competition, Thelen showed little signs of rust averaging 25 points and 12 rebounds in the two games of the Bellarmine Classic.

In Friday’s 97-75 victory over Ohio Valley, Thelen registered 21 points, nine rebounds and two assists in 28 minutes of play.  The following night, playing against No. 3 Florida Southern, Thelen scorched the nets for a career high 29 points while hauling in 15 rebounds for his league-leading fifth double-double on the season in just eight games.  Despite the 101-96 overtime loss to FSC, Thelen added a pair of assists and two steals while hitting 13 of his 16 field goal attempts.  His 81 percent effort, coupled with his 73 percent shooting night on Friday, brought his overall percentage to 77.8 percent (21-of-27) for the week.

This is the Edgewood, Kentucky, native’s second career weekly selection as he picked up the season’s first honor back on Nov. 17, which was also the last time a Knight was recognized by the league.
