University of Southern Indiana senior center/forward Anna Hackert has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Hackert broke a 37-year old Southern Indiana school record Tuesday night when she scored 23 points and collected 24 rebounds in the Screaming Eagles’ 87-41 Midwest Region win over Salem International University. Hackert broke the single-game school record for rebounds (21), which had been set twice in 1977. Hackert, who was 8-of-16 from the floor and 7-of-8 from the charity stripe, outscored the visiting Tigers 19-17 in the first 20 minutes as she became what is believed to be the first player in program history to reach the 20-point and the 20-rebound plateau in the same game.
In addition to her scoring and rebounding, which featured 12 offensive and 12 defensive boards, Hackert dished out a game and career-high tying five assists while racking up two steals and two blocks. The rebounding effort marked the second time in Hackert’s career she has reached the 20-rebound plateau—the last being a 20-rebound effort against Kentucky Wesleyan College in 2013—while her scoring effort was a season-high.
For the week, she converted 14-for-27 (51.9 percent) from the field, corralled 26 rebounds, collected two assists, and one block at the post position.
On the year, the Evansville, Ind., native leads USI with 15.5 points and 13.9 rebounds per contest
The honor is Hackert’s fifth of her career as she recently earned the honor on Nov. 24.
