The University of Missouri-Rolla’s Joffroi Holcombe (Alexandria, La./Menard) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week. The senior distance-runner captured the individual title at the UMR Miner Invitational in Rolla, Missouri on Saturday.
Holcombe completed the very wet 5K course in a time of 15:19 to help lead the Miners to a second-place finish in the seven-team event. He outpaced second-place finisher Jaime Villa Zapatero of Drury by nine seconds.
Missouri-Rolla trailed Drury in the team standings by five points and finished with an overall score of 37. Teammate Kurt Schauwecker placed fourth in at time of 15:37.
This is the first GLVC Runner of the Week award for Holcombe this season. He was also a recipient of the award once in 2006.
Holcombe and the Miners will return to action at the Missouri Southern Stampede on Saturday.
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Bellarmine’s Ben Draper, Northern Kentucky’s Zach Koehler, Saint Joseph’s Naza Sanchez and SIU Edwardsville’s Erik Steffens.
