Lewis University junior forward Mariyah Brawner-Henley has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week in women’s basketball, it was announced by the league office Monday.  It is the second consecutive honor for the Flyer.

Brawner-Henley kept the second-ranked Flyers unbeaten at 13-0 and 3-0 in GLVC play by averaging 26 points on 60.6 percent shooting and 16 rebounds in 30.5 minutes of play during two conference road wins last week.
In Friday’s 88-72 victory at Quincy, Brawner-Henley netted 25 points on 9-of-17 (.529) shooting, while also grabbing 11 rebounds and swatting three shots as well.  Down five points to the Lady Hawks at intermission, Brawner-Henley scored 16 of her 25 points in the second half to help the Flyers rally for the win.  In Sunday’s 93-57 win at Truman State, which was 2-0 in GLVC play entering the game, Brawner-Henley took control of the game with 27 points on 11-of-16 (.688) shooting, 21 rebounds, five assists, four blocks, four steals and no turnovers.  In the win over the Bulldogs, she also eclipsed the 1,000-point plateau for her career.  She now owns 1,002 career points at Lewis.

Her scoring efforts were the two highest outputs in the conference this past week, while her 21-rebound performance was a conference high during the two-game span.

The Skokie, Illinois, native earns the fourth weekly honor of her career.  Prior to being recognized on Dec. 22 before the holiday break, Brawner-Henley was also honored on Nov. 11 and Dec. 9, 2013.
