Missouri S&T sophomore Miguel Chavez and William Jewell College freshman Alex Millhuff have been named the PNC Great Lakes Valley Conference Athletes of the Week in the sports of men’s and women’s swimming and diving, it was announced by the league office on Wednesday.

This marks the second consecutive award for both the Missouri S&T men’s and William Jewell women’s programs.

Chavez earned a win in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2 minutes, 4.78 seconds in a double dual meet Sunday against Colorado Mesa and host UC-San Diego.  The Chihuahua, Mexico, native was also second in the 100 breaststroke (58.29) and a member of the Miners’ 200-yard medley relay (1:36.72) team that placed third.  Missouri S&T defeated Mesa 170-118, but fell to UCSD 194.5-93.5.

This is Chavez’s first career weekly honor and the first for a Miner since Aljaz Kerc picked up the season’s final weekly award of the 2014 calendar year on Dec. 23.
