INDIANAPOLIS – Drury University junior guard Annie Armstrong has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week in women’s basketball, it was announced by the league office Monday.
Armstrong averaged 18.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists while shooting 65 percent from the field (13-of-20), 67 percent from 3-point range (6-of-9) and making all four of her free-throw tries to lead the Lady Panthers to a pair of conference home wins last week. The DU point guard also had eight assists to just one turnover in her 69 minutes of action.
The 15th-ranked Lady Panthers entertained GLVC East Division foes Bellarmine and Southern Indiana, which entered last week a combined 17-5 and 4-0 in league play.
In Thursday’s 64-54 victory over Southern Indiana, Armstrong netted 17 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field, while grabbing seven rebounds and dishing five assists. Two days later in a 83-71 win over Bellarmine, she scored 19 points on 7-of-9 shooting, including 3-of-4 from beyond the arc, and snagged five boards and added three helpers as well.
The Springfield, Missouri, native, who leads the nation in free-throw percentage (97.9 percent) earns the first weekly honor of her career and is the first Lady Panther to be recognized by the league since Amber Dvorak on Feb. 17, 2014.
