INDIANAPOLIS – University of Indianapolis junior guard Lucas Barker has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week in men’s basketball, it was announced by the league office Monday.
Barker averaged a near triple-double in two games last week as he helped UIndy remain unbeaten with two convincing conference road wins. He finished the week averaging 11.5 points, 12 assists and seven rebounds following wins at Rockhurst and William Jewell. At 13-0, the No. 5 Greyhounds are off to their best start in 18 years.
In Thursday’s 92-54 victory at William Jewell, Barker stuffed the stat sheet with 11 points, 11 assists, six rebounds, two steals and a block. Barker helped the Hounds score the game’s first 14 points on the way to an ultimately insurmountable 28-point halftime advantage.
In Saturday’s 88-49 win at Rockhurst, the 6-foot guard came two boards shy of a triple-double, compiling 12 points, a career-high 13 assists and eight rebounds at Rockhurst. He also drained three triples and committed just two turnovers, while his 13 dimes were the most by a GLVC player this season.
The Division II leader in assists per game (8.8), the Cranbourne, Australia, native is the only player in the GLVC with multiple points-assists double-doubles this season, accounting for four of six such performances to date.
This is the first career weekly selection for Barker and the first for a Hound since Jordan Loyd was recognized by the league on Dec. 22, 2014.
