William Jewell College senior guard Aerial Smith has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week in women’s basketball, it was announced by the league office Monday.

Smith helped the Cardinals to a 2-0 conference record this past week, which included an 80-64 upset win over No. 14 Drury on Saturday.  Jewell (10-5, 5-2 GLVC) opened the week with a 74-61 victory against Missouri S&T on Thursday.

Smith averaged 14.0 points on 50 percent shooting, as well as 8.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 3.5 steals per game last week.

In the win against the Lady Miners, she tallied 14 points, while adding seven boards, four assists, four steals and a block in 26 minutes of play.  Against the 14th-ranked Lady Panthers, Smith responded with 14 points, nine rebounds, eight assists and three steals, playing all but one minute in the upset win.

A native of Overland Park, Kansas, this is Smith’s first career weekly honor and the first for a Cardinal since Chelsea Meeks was recognized on Feb. 25, 2013.
