Northern Kentucky University’s Steven Beattie (Dublin, Ireland) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week. The freshman forward posted four goals in two Norse victories last week helping his team stay unbeaten on the season.

In Northern Kentucky’s 8-2 win over visiting Ashland on Friday, Beattie recorded his first career hat-trick. He notched the game-winner in the tenth minute on an assist by Tony Ray and added first-half goals in the 28th and 30th minutes to help the second-ranked Norse cruise to an in-region win.

Beattie returned in Northern Kentucky’s 1-0 win over visiting Bellarmine on Sunday to provide the game-winning goal. He intercepted a clearance attempt and fired the difference-making shot past the Knights’ goalkeeper Justin Welply. The goal came at the 11:19 mark of the first half and enabled the Norse to stay undefeated in conference play at 3-0.

Beattie finished the weekend with 14 shots and 10 shots on goal and now is tied for the team lead for goals this season with five. He has also added two assists on the year for a total of 12 points.

Northern Kentucky (8-0, 3-0 GLVC) boasts the only unbeaten and untied overall record among GLVC squads and is tied with UIndy for first place in the league.

The Norse will return to action at Missouri-Rolla and Missouri-St. Louis this weekend.

Other top performers in the GLVC last week included: Lewis’ Kipp Cartwright, Quincy’s Jayme Groark, Rockhurst’s Haggai Leboo, UIndy’s Brian Fishback and UW-Parkside’s Bojan Jovicic.
