University of Missouri-St. Louis senior first baseman Brianna Butler and University of Southern Indiana junior pitcher/first baseman Brooke Harmening have been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Players of the Week in the sport of softball, the conference office announced Wednesday.

Butler helped the Tritons open the season with a 5-1 record at last week’s NFCA Leadoff Classic in Tucson, Arizona, hitting 10-for-20 (.500) with four runs batted in and five runs scored.  Six of her 10 hits were for extra bases as she homered three times and doubled three times as well.  She hit safely in all six games, including a 3-for-3 effort with a home run and a double in UMSL’s 6-3 win over Fort Lewis on Saturday.

The Troy, Illinois, native earns her second career weekly award as her first was also the Tritons’ last weekly honor, coming on April 22, 2014.
