Drury University sophomore Maximilian Hepp and senior Stefanie Monsch have been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Athletes of the Week in the sports of men’s and women’s tennis, respectively, it was announced by the league office Thursday.
Hepp, a native of Auenwald, Germany, helped the 11th-ranked Panthers to a 2-0 season start with a pair of homecourt victories at Cooper Tennis Complex last week, including an 8-1 win over Washburn on Friday and a 7-2 decision over East Central University (OK) on Sunday.
In singles action Hepp defeated Martin Wieand of Washburn 6-2, 6-3 and downed Marc Fillat 6-3, 6-4 of East Central while playing at the top of the lineup for DU. Hepp and Jorge Nadal defeated Matt Barlow and Blake Hunter of Washburn 8-3 in Friday action and then handed Alex Fillat and Marc Fillat of East Central an 8-4 loss on Sunday while playing at the No. 1 spot in the Panthers doubles lineup.
Monsch helped the 29th-ranked Panthers to a 2-0 start to the season with a pair of 9-0 homecourt shutout victories at Cooper Tennis Complex. Drury blanked Washburn last Friday and shut out East Central on Sunday.
The Dornstetten, Germany, native defeated Jodie Blackim of Washburn 7-6, 6-4 while playing at No. 1 spot and then knocked off Bernardita Muscillo of East Central 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 spot on Sunday. Monsch and Lara Muller went 2-0 in doubles action with the Panthers defeating Jodie Blackim and Kirsten Holle of Washburn 8-6 and then downing Julia Municoy and Elisabeth Dignard of East Central 8-3 to wrap up the week.
