INDIANAPOLIS – Truman State University senior shortstop Blake Deaton and Missouri S&T senior pitcher Micah Dohlen have been respectively named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week in the sport of baseball, the conference office announced Monday.
Dohlen threw 6.2 shutout innings – allowing only three hits in that span – in the Miners’ 2-0 season-opening win Friday over No. 13 St. Edward’s in Austin, Texas. Dohlen gave up just one hit over the first six innings, while finishing his outing with three strikeouts, two walks and getting 12 ground ball outs. In four of his seven innings of work, Dohlen retired the Hilltoppers in order. The win in Friday’s opener was Missouri S&T’s fourth in a season opener in the last five seasons.
The Kent, Washington, native earns his first career weekly award and is the first Miner to be recognized by the league since Michael Lockett was named GLVC Pitcher of the Week on March 12, 2012.
