Truman State University senior shortstop Blake Deaton and Missouri S&T senior pitcher Micah Dohlen have been respectively named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week in the sport of baseball, the conference office announced Monday.
Deaton led the Bulldogs to a 4-0 start toopen the season by hitting an even .500 (7-for-14) from the plate with three doubles and five runs batted in. He also slugged at a .714 clip and scored seven runs and walked five times for a .632 on-base percentage. All four wins came against Oklahoma Panhandle State over the week, with Deaton notching hits and reaching base safely in each game. The openers on Saturday and Sunday proved to be his best efforts of the week. In a 10-8 10-inning affair on Saturday, he was 2-for-5 with two RBI and three runs scored, while Sunday’s first contest – a 12-4 victory – saw him go 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI with a run scored.
A native of Mount Vernon, Illinois, this is Deaton’s first career weekly honor and the first for a Bulldog since Jarod Hahn was named GLVC Player of the Week on March 18, 2014.
