Drury University senior first baseman Luke Tewes and junior pitcher Luke Burnidge have been respectively named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week in the sport of baseball, the conference office announced Monday.
Tewes went 6-for-14 (.429) with three homeruns, eight runs batted in, and five runs scored last week as the Panthers split twinbills at No. 24 St. Edward’s in Austin, Texas.
Following an 8-0 setback in Friday’s first game, Drury responded with heroics by Tewes, who hit three homers – a new Drury single game record – with one grand slam for all six runs batted in on three hits in the Panthers’ 6-2 victory. He then had three hits, scored two runs and was walked once in the Saturday series, which included an 11-10 loss in the opener and a 2-0 win in the finale.
For the week Tewes boasted a 1.071 slugging percentage and a .467 on base percentage to go along with six hits, eight RBIs, three homers, one walk and 29 putouts. ??
A native of Lincoln, Nebraska, this is Tewes third career weekly honor as he was previous recognized on March 11 and April 14, 2014.
