Bellarmine University senior sprinter Meghan Jones and William Jewell College junior jumper Margaret Perko have been respectively named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women's Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, it was announced by the league office Wednesday.
A day after she helped Bellarmine's 4x400 relay team set a new school record by posting the fifth-best time (3:50.01) in the nation at the Ohio State Tune-up, Jones shattered the 11-year-old meet record in the 400-meter dash Saturday at the DePauw Indoor Classic in helping the Knights cruise to the team title. The senior All-American raced to first in the 400 in 55.88, which bested the previous meet record of 57.21 by Gena Rawlins in 2004. She ranks first in the GLVC and is tied for fifth nationally in the event.
This is the Greenville, Indiana, native's second career weekly honor as she was first recognized on Jan. 27, 2015.
