Northern Kentucky University’s Braden Bishop (Centerville, Ohio) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week. The sophomore forward helped guide the Norse to road wins over Missouri-Rolla and Missouri-St. Louis last weekend.
In Northern Kentucky’s 3-0 win at Missouri-Rolla on Friday, Bishop tallied just one shot on goal but made the most of the attempt by notching his sixth goal of the season. The goal came in the 67th minute of the contest on an assist from teammate Steven Beattie, icing the victory for the Norse.
Bishop, the 2006 GLVC Freshman of the Year, returned in Northern Kentucky’s 2-0 win over Missouri-St. Louis on Sunday to post his second goal of the weekend. He converted a cross from Jason Larkin in the 36th minute to give the Norse a two-goal cushion.
Bishop now has seven goals to lead the Norse on the year. He also has two assists for a team-high 16 points this season.
The win was NKU’s 10th straight to open the 2007 campaign. The Norse (10-0, 5-0), ranked second in the latest NSCAA/adidas Top 25 Poll, will return home to face defending GLVC Champion SIU Edwardsville on Friday and Quincy on Sunday.
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included: Bellarmine’s Ross Hopkins, Quincy’s Jayme Groark, Rockhurst’s Haggai Leboo and UIndy’s Matt Spaulding.
