INDIANAPOLIS – Quincy University sophomore utility player David Jacob and redshirt sophomore pitcher Mark Niebrugge have been respectively named the PNC Great Lakes Valley Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week in the sport of baseball, the conference office announced Tuesday.

Both Quincy standouts helped the Hawks to a 4-1 mark last week, including a conference sweep of Bellarmine during the QU home opener that debuted its new turf infield.

Jacob hit .556 at the plate last week, registering 10 hits in five games including a double and a homerun, while racking up eight RBI and two runs scored.  The sophomore has a six-game hitting streak and has reached safely in all 16 games this season.  Jacob has eight multiple hit games and seven multiple RBI games.  The Springfield, Illinois, native is now batting .400 with four doubles, one triple, four homeruns, and 24 RBI this season.

This is Jacob’s first weekly accolade and marks the first for a Quincy player since Kenny May was recognized on April 29, 2014.
