Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s Kate Yearian (Waterloo, Ill.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Week. Yearian, a senior midfielder for the Cougars, posted three goals over the weekend helping the Cougars collect league wins over Lewis and UW-Parkside.
In SIU Edwardsville’s 3-1 win over UW-Parkside on Friday, Yearian posted an insurance marker in the 44th minute. The goal capped a three-goal half for the Cougars and provided them with a 3-0 advantage at the break.
Yearian returned in SIU Edwardsville’s 4-0 win over Lewis on Sunday to post two goals and an assist. She netted her first goal of the contest in the 77th minute and notched the game’s fourth and final goal in the 82nd minute. Yearian added an assist on Kiara Akpore’s goal at the 80:04 mark.
The two GLVC victories helped SIUE (5-3-1) improve to 4-2 in league play. Yearian leads the Cougars with six goal and two assists on the year.
