Bellarmine University senior Hannah Daunhauer and University of Illinois Springfield sophomore Taylor Bowlby were named Great Lakes Valley Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, in the sport of softball, the conference office announced Monday.
Bowlby recorded a 5-0 week for the Prairie Stars in the circle. She posted a 1.50 ERA and 34 strikeouts, while giving up just 15 hits in 28 innings of work. On Monday, the righty pitched a complete game, one-hit shutout against No. 4 Missouri-St. Louis, striking out a season-high 10 batters in UIS' 1-0 victory. She followed that performance with three innings in a no-hit, combined shutout against Benedictine Springfield with four strikeouts. In a 12-inning affair against Quincy, Bowlby tossed a complete game in relief, eight full innings, giving up just five hits and fanning eight. She followed that performance with a starting role in the next game with another no-hit, combined shutout in game two against the Hawks. To earn her final win of the week, she struck out nine batters to end Truman State's 11-game winning streak in five innings of work. In addition to her work in the circle, Bowlby batted .357 with four walks, an RBI and three runs scored. Bowlby is now 12-2 on the year and holds a 1.79 ERA.
The O'Fallon, Missouri, native has garnered her first career weekly honor, and is now the first Prairie Star since March 28, 2011 (Aubrey Watson) to be named Pitcher of the Week.
