University of Southern Indiana junior Jack Joyce has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week in the sport of men's tennis, the conference announced Tuesday.
Joyce went a combined 2-0 to lead the No. 27 Screaming Eagles to an 8-1 victory over previously unbeaten Bellarmine in their league opener. After pairing with red-shirt freshman Aaron Barris for an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles, Joyce trumped BU's Anton Rabinov in straight sets (6-1, 6-1) at No. 1 singles. The battle at No. 1 singles featured two regionally-ranked competitors, with Joyce earning a No. 5 ranking and Rabinov notching a No. 10 ranking. For the season, the junior is a combined 29-7 overall, including 15-3 in singles play and 14-4 in doubles play. In dual action, Joyce is a 9-2 at No. 1 singles and is 8-3 in doubles competition.
This is the second career weekly honor for the Bournemouth, England, native who last was selected on February 17 of this season.
