University of Missouri-St. Louis senior second baseman Katie Wood and Bellarmine University junior pitcher Ally Foster were named Great Lakes Valley Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, in the sport of softball, the conference office announced Tuesday.

Foster led Bellarmine to three of their five wins on the week from the circle. She worked 20 2/3 innings, and surrendered just two hits while striking out 38. Highlighting her outstanding week was a 2-0, 8-inning, no-hit win at UIS. Foster walked just one while mowing down a school-record 16 via strikeouts. The junior followed that up with an impressive relief outing in game two – a 1-0 loss – against the Prairie Stars. She entered a bases-loaded with one out situation in the bottom of the fifth and recorded two strikeouts.  She then proceeded to strike out the side in the bottom of the sixth to give her 21 strikeouts in 9 2/3 innings. The right hander closed the week with a 4-0, one-hit win on Sunday at McKendree. Foster now has seven shutouts in a row as she extended her scoreless innings streak to 60 1/3. In addition to the seven shutouts, Foster also has three appearances in relief as her earned run average has dropped to a miniscule 0.51, while her record has swelled to 13-1. Earlier this season, Foster became BU's all-time leader in strikeouts, and that record now stands at 476.

This is the Louisville, Kentucky, native's second career weekly honor, having last earned the accolade in the same awards week of 2014 on April 1.
