University of Southern Indiana junior Tyler Schickel and Missouri S&T senior Joe Vellella have been respectively named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, it was announced by the conference office Wednesday.

Vellella secured a provisional mark in the hammer throw with a mark of 180-10 as he finished fifth in the event at the Miners’ first outdoor meet of the season at Pittsburg State.  His heave ranks him first in the conference and 16th among all NCAA Division II throwers. 

A native of Piasa, Illinois, Vellella earns his third career honor as his first two accolades came on April 24, 2013 and April 3, 2014.
