University of Southern Indiana junior outfielder Kyle Kempf and junior pitcher Alex Holder have been respectively named the PNC Great Lakes Valley Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week in the sport of baseball, the conference office announced Monday.
Holder shined in his lone performance on the mound, holding GLVC East Division leader Indianapolis to just one hit over seven innings in an 8-0 victory on Saturday. In the Eagles’ first one-hitter since 2012, Holder allowed one walk and struck out a season-high eight batters while going two batters over the minimum to post his second shutout of the year.
The Princeton, Indiana, native earns the first weekly honor of his career and is the first USU hurler to earn the award since Ben Wright on April 15, 2013.
