University of Indianapolis senior center fielder Casey Williamson and junior pitcher Morgan Foley have been respectively named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week in the sport of softball, the conference office announced Monday.
Williamson led UIndy in batting average (.533), on-base percentage (.667), slugging (1.000), RBI (9) and stolen bases (3) last week. More significantly, she added to her ever-growing catalog of school records, setting new program marks for career RBI and walks. In Tuesday's 2-0 game two win versus Saint Joseph's, the senior passed teammate Taylor Russell for the program's all-time RBI lead. Russell had just broken the career mark in game one, but Williamson one-upped her in the second game to take over the lead. Through the weekend, the two senior sluggers are now tied with 163 career ribbies.
Sunday, Williamson coaxed her 118th career walk in the game one 6-0 victory versus Bellarmine, passing former-teammate Jennifer DeMotte for first in the school annals. She now holds or shares the UIndy career records for hits, doubles, triples, RBI, stolen bases and walks. Williamson's week also included her first career grand slam, blasting a 1-2 pitch over the Baumgartner Field scoreboard and onto the street, plating four runs in the 8-0 game two win against Southern Indiana Saturday. She also homered earlier in the week as her two-run shot helped the Hounds to a 5-3 win versus Saint Joseph's in Tuesday's first game.
This is the Indianapolis, Indiana, product's first weekly honor of the season but fifth of her career, last being named April 8, 2013.
