University of Southern Indiana junior Jack Joyce has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week in the sport of men's tennis, the conference announced Tuesday.
Joyce went a combined 7-1 to lead the No. 25 Screaming Eagles to a 4-0 record this past week, while 4-0 at No. 1 singles play, including 2-0 in GLVC action, and combining with red-shirt freshman Aaron Barris for a 3-1 mark at No. 1 doubles.
On March 31, Joyce won 6-1, 6-2 at home against his Oakland City singles opponent after shutting out his doubles competition 8-0. The very next day, he earned the 8-4 doubles win and 6-1, 6-0 singles road victory April 1 in a matchup with IU Southeast. With just one day's rest, Joyce allowed the lone blemish on his record, falling 8-6 to Reid Imel and Andrew Klump of Saint Joseph's before bouncing back for the 6-3, 6-2 singles win over Imel at SJC. In the week's final competition – the Screaming Eagles' third road match of the week – the junior got the 8-5 win in doubles over McKendree's Maximilian Ilic and Aleix Alvarez before defeating Ilic 6-2, 6-1 in singles.
This is the third career weekly honor and unprecedented third time this season for the Bournemouth, England, product last earning the accolade March 24.
