University of Southern Indiana freshman Kelsey Shipman has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week in the sport of women's tennis, the conference office announced Tuesday.

Shipman went a combined 6-0 to lead the Screaming Eagles to three NCAA II Midwest Region victories, including a pair of Great Lakes Valley Conference road wins this past week – 5-0 against Saint Joseph's on April 3 and 5-4 versus McKendree on April 4.

After claiming straight-set wins at No. 3 singles in USI's wins over Kentucky Wesleyan (6-0, 6-0) and Saint Joseph's (6-3, 6-0 past Katie Phillips), Shipman clinched a crucial victory for the Screaming Eagles' against McKendree Saturday afternoon. The rookie rallied from a one-set deficit at No. 5 singles to earn a 2-6, 6-1, 6-1 win over Sara Janulavich. In doubles play, Shipman paired with two different players to post a 3-0 mark at No. 2 doubles, winning 8-0 against KWC, 8-1 at SJC and 8-3 at McK.

This is the first career weekly honor for the Olney, Illinois, product.
