The Great Lakes Valley Conference has named Maryville University sophomore Justin Wrozier its GLVC Player of the Month for March in men's golf, it was announced Tuesday. Wrozier earned the honor following a vote from the league's men's golf coaches.
The St. Peters, Missouri, native played in six rounds over the course of three tournaments, averaging 72.17 in the month of March.
Wrozier placed tied for fourth overall out of 111 with a 36-hole score of 143 (73-70) to help Maryville finish 11th at the 19-team Dave Falconer Tournament at Chamberlyne Country Club in Danville, Arkansas, March 9-10. His second round score was two-under par.
At the UIS Spring Invitational at Missouri Bluffs in St. Charles, Missouri, on March 14-15, the Saints tied for first place in a field of eight teams but were declared tournament champions after beating Lindenwood in a playoff. Wrozier tied for 15th of 53 golfers, hitting a 5-over par 73-72=145 on the weekend.
Maryville finished the month at the Otter Creek Golf Course in Columbus, Indiana, for the UW-Parkside AMFAM Spring Invitational March 29-30. Wrozier fired a final-round 71, which was tied for the best score of the tournament, and finished in a tie for second of 98 golfers, carding a 145 (74-71), just two strokes back of the winner. The Saints finished third of 15 teams with a combined score of 600.
This is the first career monthly award for the sophomore and the first for a Saint since Jack McKinney was named the March honoree in 2014.
