The University of Wisconsin-Parkside’s Naomi Fulton (Hartland, Wis.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week. Fulton, a senior runner for the 10th-ranked Rangers, placed fifth at the Augustana Brissman-Lundeen Invitational in Davenport, Iowa on Friday.
Fulton was the fourth collegiate runner to cross the finish line and completed the 6,000-meter course in a time of 22:10 on a hot and windy afternoon. In a field of 352 runners and 26 teams, her efforts helped the Rangers take home first overall in the team standings.
UW-Parkside finished with a team score of 74 and bettered second-place finisher and Division III- power St. Olaf by 24. Teammate Jessica Lamp, last week’s GLVC Runner of the Week, won the event in a time of 21:50.
Fulton’s fifth-place finish was an improvement over her finish a year ago at the meet. She placed 11th in 2006.
Fulton and the Rangers will return to action at the Indiana Wesleyan Invitational on October 6.
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included Drury’s Elizabeth Hurford and SIU Edwardsville’s Kayla Brown.
