The Great Lakes Valley Conference has named University of Indianapolis senior Chanice Young its GLVC Player of the Month for March in women’s golf, it was announced Tuesday. Young earned the honor following a vote from the league’s women’s golf coaches.
Young played in two events last month, posting a 75.2 stroke average through five rounds.
On March 12-13, she finished tied for fifth out of 65 golfers at the SMSU Spring Invitational played on the Sundance Golf Course in Buckeye, Arizona. The Greyhounds finished runners-up at the event, but Young was competing as an individual, carding rounds of 79 and 78.
Carding the best round and second individual medal of her career, the senior tallied a 71 in the third and final round of the Perry Park Spring Fling March 21-22 in Perry Park, Kentucky at the Perry Park Golf Resort. She fired a 74 in both the first and second round for a three-round total of six-over par 219. For her performance, she was named to the all-tournament team. Additionally, her efforts helped UIndy to a second-place finish on the 26-team leaderboard.
This is the first career monthly award for the Evansville, Indiana, native and the first for a Greyhound since the last monthly selection of October, awarded to Paxton DeHaven.
