Bellarmine University senior Meghan Jones and University of Indianapolis senior thrower Farin Hickman have been respectively named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, it was announced by the league office Wednesday.
This past weekend at the Tennessee Relays, Jones racked up three NCAA provisional performances in the 200 and 400 meters as well as the 4x100-meter relay. She finished runner-up in the 400 meters with a time of 54.37, and then came back to finish runner-up in the 200 with a time of 23.84. The next day she helped lead the Bellarmine 4x100 relay to an NCAA provisional mark of 46.74. All three times are new school records for Bellarmine and conference leading marks in the GLVC. With these performances, Jones now ranks fourth nationally in the 200, fifth in the 400, and ninth on the 4x100 relay. Jones also helped the Bellarmine 4x400m relay run a GLVC leading time of 3:49.02, which is just short of the NCAA provisional mark in that event.
This is the second career outdoor honor for the Greenville, Indiana, native as she was first recognized by the conference on May 1, 2012.
