University of Indianapolis junior Morgan Foley and University of Southern Indiana senior MacKenzi Dorsam were named Great Lakes Valley Conference Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively, in the sport of softball, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Dorsam hit .750, slugged 1.917 with an on-base percentage of .800 while tallying four home runs, a pair of doubles, nine hits, six runs, and 12 runs batted in to lead 15th-ranked USI to a perfect 4-0 record after wins against Truman State and Quincy. The twinbill sweeps also extended the Screaming Eagles winning streak to a league-best 10 games.
In the opening game against TSU, the Bulldogs got out to an early 3-0 lead, but Dorsam answered, clearing the loaded bases with a deep double to left field, knotting the score at 3-3, leading to an eventual 4-3 win. Her momentum continued into the nightcap, with a leadoff home run in the bottom of the first. The senior would go on to tally another two hits, along with a run and walk as the Eagles completed the sweep with a 6-4 win.
Dorsam came back the following day going 5-for-6 with two walks along with an intentional; she tallied four RBI off a two-run homer and two-run double as USI defeated the Hawks, 7-1, in game one, before returning to the plate to deliver two more home runs to lead the Eagles to an 8-0, six-inning shutout over Quincy in the weekend's closer.
This is the second week in a row that a Screaming Eagle has earned the honor and first of the season for the Dubois, Indiana, native. She now has two career weekly selections, last earning the nod April 8, 2014.
