Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s Correen Roark (Hazelwood, Mo.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Week. The sophomore midfielder led the Cougars to league road wins over 7th-ranked Northern Kentucky and Bellarmine.
In the Cougars’ 3-2 win at Northern Kentucky on Friday, Roark posted a goal in the 59th minute. It provided SIUE a 2-1 lead and put the Cougars ahead for good in the contest.
She returned on Sunday to knock in the game-winning goal in SIUE’s 2-1 win over Bellarmine. Roark tallied the winning score unassisted in the 66th minute.
Roark had six shots, four shots on goal and two goals on the week, doubling her season ouput. She now has three goals on the season.
The Cougars (7-3-1, 6-2) surged into second-place in the GLVC standings with the victories and have won four straight matches. They will return to action at home against Missouri-Rolla and Missouri-St. Louis this weekend.
Other top performers in the GLVC last week included: Drury’s Jessie Sanderson, Lewis’ Courtney Kettel, Rockhurst’s Lisa Schwarz, UIndy’s Jamie Huebner and UW-Parkside’s Meredith Novak.
