The Great Lakes Valley Conference has named Lewis University junior Alex Thode its GLVC Men's Golf Player of the Month for April, it was announced Monday. Thode earned the honor following a vote from the league's men's golf coaches.
The Washington, Iowa, native played in nine rounds over the course of three tournaments last month and averaged 72.67 strokes.
Thode placed tied for fifth overall at The Jewell with a 73-70=143, helping the team to a sixth-place finish with a 585 (294-291) on April 9-10. Just two days later, the Flyers competed in the Midwest Regional #4 and placed tied for 11th as Thode tied for 9th individually out of 155 golfers after carding a two-round total of 145 (74-71), adding to the team total of 602 (301-301).
Closing out the month, Lewis competed at the GLVC Men's Golf Championships from April 19-21 and finished second with a 3-2 loss to Missouri-St. Louis in match play, with Thode scoring a 152 (79-73). However, the junior came out victorious the day before, winning medalist honors after turning in a two-under-par 214 (71-72-71), winning the title by a conference-record nine strokes.
This monthly honor bookends Thode's 2014-15 season as he also won October's monthly honor to open the selections. This also marks his third career monthly honor.
