The Great Lakes Valley Conference has named University of Indianapolis freshman Annika Haynes its GLVC Women's Golf Player of the Month for April, it was announced Monday. Haynes earned the honor following a vote from the league's women's golf coaches.
Haynes played in three events last month, posting a 76.1 stroke average through eight rounds.
The rookie started the month at the IPFW Spring Classic April 5-6, finishing fourth (78-72=150) among the 64-golfer field and helping the team to a first-place finish (302-298=600) that was 16 strokes ahead of runners-up Youngstown State. Next on the slate was the Lady Buckeye Spring Invitational April 18-19 where Haynes tied for 35th (79-81-73=233) in a field of 75 from mostly-Big 10 schools. The team carded a 54-hole score of 309-306-316=931 for 10th place as the only non-Division I competitors.
In the GLVC Women's Golf Championships from April 24-26, Haynes turned in a 54-hole score of 226 (76-72-78) for third place, helping the Greyhounds to a record-fourth straight conference championship title with rounds of 308-300-304=912 for the 14-shot, come-from-behind win.
This is the first career monthly award for the Oakville, Ontario, native and the second in a row for UIndy as senior Chanice Young was selected last month as the March honoree.
