University of Missouri-St. Louis junior pitcher Kyle Wilson and senior center fielder Austin Crutcher have been respectively named the PNC Great Lakes Valley Conference Pitcher and Player of the Week in the sport of baseball, the conference office announced Monday.

With Bellarmine fighting to capture a berth in the GLVC Tournament, Crutcher put together his best series in conference play this season. The senior hit .529 (9-for-17) with five home runs, seven RBI, nine runs scored, two doubles and a stolen base to lead the Knights to a four-game sweep of McKendree. Behind the center fielder’s power display, which included three home runs in the regular-season finale, Bellarmine clinched the East Division’s third automatic bid in the conference tournament.

Crutcher had multiple hits in each game of the series, posting two apiece in the first three contests and three in the finale. He opened the series with a homer in his first at-bat and closed the series going deep in his final two plate appearances in the last regular-season game of a storied career. In a 9-7 victory in game three that sealed a BU spot in the GLVC Tournament, Crutcher homered in his first at-bat and later doubled. He launched a two-run shot in the third and solo blasts in the seventh and ninth innings of the last game of the series. With a GLVC-best 16 home runs this season, Crutcher is two homers shy of tying Bellarmine’s single-season record.

The native of Lexington, Kentucky, earns his second career weekly honor, the first coming March 25, 2013, which is also the last time a Knight was selected.
